Introduction to Phased Array
This two-day course is designed to introduce engineers, managers and inspectors to the principles and advantages of the rapidly emerging phased array technology.
The course covers the history of industrial phased array, the principles, capabilities, applications and advantages of phased array compared to conventional inspection instruments.
The practical aspects of the course will focus on the OmniScan® portable phased array unit, and will feature numerous sample applications.
The attendees will work through several hands-on exercises to illustrate the capabilities and imaging of phased arrays working from pre-prepared files. If circumstances permit, some individual set-ups may be possible and attendees are encouraged to bring along samples of their defective specimens for evaluation. Typically, two attendees will share an OmniScan® unit for the hands-on practical exercises.
This course has been developed in conjunction with Olympus NDT's certified course. The course can be used for ASNT level 3 re-certification points.
Ultrasonic Phased Array Inspection for Aircraft and Aerospace Applications
- 40 hour (1 week) course for aircraft inspectors already certified level 2 or 3 in conventional ultrasonic inspection of aircraft and needing to progress into phased array inspection.
- Suitable for aircraft manufacturers, engine manufacturers, aircraft operators, aircraft maintenance and aircraft inspection company personnel.
- Formal classroom theory sessions covering: comparison of conventional ultrasonic theory and phased array theory and techniques, familiarization with the OmniScan® operation, current aircraft applications including: composites, metal/metal bonding, friction stir welding, fastener hole inspection, billet inspection, landing gear inspection.
- Structured hands-on practical exercises using the OmniScan® on our range of aircraft defect samples (Please feel free to also bring your own samples).
- Theoretical and practical training in the application of the "Boeing, scribe line" technique.
- Technique development training and set-up optimization.
- Software manipulation for imaging, data storage and set-up storing.
- This course can be used for certification requirements in accordance with employer based certification programs such as SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410. Assistance will be provided to enable course attendees to incorporate the additional requirements into their NDT personnel certification program.
Qualification examinations can be administered on course completion by prior arrangement.
Eddy Current Array Inspection for Aircraft Applications
- 40 hour (1 week) course for aircraft inspectors already certified level 2 or 3 in conventional Eddy Current inspection of aircraft and needing to progress into Eddy Current Array (ECA) inspection.
- Suitable for aircraft manufacturers, engine manufacturers, aircraft operators, aircraft maintenance and aircraft inspection company personnel.
- Formal classroom theory sessions covering: comparison of conventional Eddy Current theory and ECA theory and techniques, familiarization with the OmniScan® operation, current aircraft applications including: Lap joint corrosion and cracking detection, skin corrosion detection (remote surface) second layer crack detection, surface crack detection, fastener hole inspection, landing gear inspection.
- Structured hands-on practical exercises using the OmniScan® on our range of aircraft defect samples (Please feel free to also bring your own samples).
- Technique development training and set-up optimization.
- Software manipulation for imaging, data storage and set-up storage.
Advanced Ultrasonic Phased Array course (NEW COURSE)
